BRIDGEPORT-SPAULDING SCHOLARSHIP COMMISSION

The Bridgeport-Spaulding Scholarship Commission was established on January 13, 1975, by the Bridgeport-Spaulding Board of Education. Its membership includes parents, teachers, administration, local business representatives, and community members.

PURPOSE

The Bridgeport-Spaulding Scholarship Commission (BSSC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping graduating seniors of Bridgeport High School in their pursuit of college education at accredited institutions. These one-time awards, ranging from $100 to $2000, are determined by a variety of criteria including GPA, financial need, participation in school activities, and faculty/ staff recommendations.

Since the Commission began in 1975, its total monetary awards to date amount to $603,645.00-a great achievement made possible through generous community support.

FUNDING

In order to support scholarship awarding efforts of the commission, funds are raised each year through both charitable donations and organized fund raising events. The BSSC hosts an annual McDonald's hotcake breakfast on the Sunday of Homecoming weekend. Each spring, the Scholarship Commission holds a dinner-theater event at the high school, complete with a fine catered meal, dinner music, and a stage production of senior student talent.

The Scholarship Commission acts as an agency for individuals, companies, and groups who wish to sponsor scholarship awards. Familes are able to establish memorial scholarships in the name of loved ones. Any scholarship donor is welcome to make the actual presentation, if desired, at the time of the annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony held each year before graduation.
